A soothing news that fell on the ears of the students who wish to pursue MBA degree from the Madras university is that now the students who appeared in TANCET can seek admission in Madras university as the latter has declared that they are going to use TANCET for MBA admission in India. Before discussing the topic let us see.
What is TANCET and who conducts it?
TANCET is an entrance examination conducted annually by Anna University on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, to grant admission into MBA, MCA, Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M Tech), Master in Planning (M Plan) and Master in Architecture (M Arch) courses in state institutes.
But why this sudden declaration? This is due to the time gap between the notification for TANCET, issued by the Anna University ,and the admission notification for the courses at the university of Madras which is the apple of discord. As the admission notice is issued during mid of March which comes at least a week after the examination ,the university has faced such questions raised by the students for a number of years. The university says that many students who came before for taking admission created a chaos blaming that they were unaware of the note that TANCET scores were mandatory .As such fiasco occurred over a number of years the varsity started pasting the caution notice from the previous year onward . On top of that there are various other candidates who apply from unconnected pastoral areas where knowledge of such mechanism are not still widespread. For this reason the Madras University has taken such resolution.
Entrance Test:
The official declaration was made after the approval of the syndicate. Which gave evidence that students who wish to seek admission to the Madras university can use the scores of the Common Entrance Test, which is conducted by the state under the directorate of technical education. As per the TOI reports, a senior official commented, saying, "There is also a Supreme Court ruling that the admissions for every technical and professional course should be under one of the five approved common entrance tests." After reading this report we can make a clear cut idea that the decision was made on a request from the directorate of technical education. The students will be thankful to the Directorate of Technical Education for their kind work. The decision to use the TANCET scores for admission to MBA courses will be applicable from 2014-2015 admission. Now the students can easily access their admission process as they can seek admission through a single window system, whereas earlier they had to run hither and thither to purchase separate application forms for admissions to university of Madras. The single window system will not only be convenient for students applying to the varsity but will also improve the quality of student intake. The university will benefit as the quality of students will improve if they are given admission on the basis of marks scored by them in the common entrance test. The university sources says that apart from improving the status of the professional programmers, they are also going to improve the academic and research programmers. Besides this they are also looking for new finding source other than UGC to sustain the research programmers. Overall the Madras University is planning to have new departments and to involve other departments to have research potential.
